August 26th is National Dog Day! We think it’s a great idea to honor Man’s Best Friend with his own special day. After all, our canine buddies have been our loyal and loving companions for thousands of years. In this article, a local Oconomowoc, WI vet offers some great ideas for ways to celebrate this special day with Fido.
Few things will get that furry tail going like the promise of a yummy snack! Pick up some treats for your four-legged friend. Of course, you can also make your own. Just be sure to only choose dog-safe ingredients, like plain yogurt; wheat germ; bananas; peanut butter; plain, cooked meat; cheese; and pureed pumpkin. Ask your vet for specific recommendations.
We know, visiting us isn’t exactly Fido’s favorite way to spend a day, but it’s for his own good. Your canine pal will both look and feel better with proper veterinary care. We use gentle handling techniques on all of our furry clients, but you can also sweeten the deal by giving your pup a special treat afterwards.
Fido loves exploring! Indulge your four-legged buddy’s taste for adventure by visiting a new park or trail, or going to a dog-friendly café. Just be sure to put your pup’s safety first. Make sure Fido is microchipped, wearing his ID tags, and is up to date on recommended vaccines. If you bring your pet to a park, take a moment to observe the dogs that are already there. If you see any aggressive pooches, take your furry friend for a long walk instead.
Do you have friends or family members with gentle, well-behaved dogs? If so, why not invite some of Fido’s friends over for a puppy party? Make some yummy dog treats for your canine guests, and have a potluck or barbeque for your human visitors. Just make sure Fido’s pals are current on shots and parasite control.
A new plaything will definitely make Fido’s day! Stop by the pet store on your way home and pick up a few doggy toys for your canine buddy. If you really want to pamper your pup, get him another doggy bed!
