2020 Resolutions For Kittens

January 1, 2020

Happy New Year! Have you recently added a baby cat to your household? If so, you’re in for some adorable moments in the coming year. Actually, your tiny furball may have some pretty big plans for 2020! Read on as an Oconomowoc, WI vet discusses little Fluffy’s resolutions for the new year.

Purrfect The Pounce

Cats are predators by nature, so they are instinctively driven to want to pounce on things. Little Fluffy will spend quite a bit of time figuring out how all those claws work, and working on her lion skills. Of course, kittens don’t know what is and isn’t safe for them. Keep an eye on your frisky pet, and don’t let her play with anything that is small, sharp, and/or potentially toxic. Items with strings and cords are also unsafe.

Train The Humans

Dogs and cats are both awesome, but they are very, very different. One area where our animal companions differ greatly is, well, petucation. We train our canine buddies, but when it comes to our feline pals, well, they usually train us. Your furry little overlord may very well have you wrapped around her paws by the end of the year!

Sleep

Although all cats are sleepy, kittens are even drowsier than adult cats. It’s very important for little Fluffy to get lots of rest, as feline growth hormones are released during sleep cycles. Make sure your furry friend has lots of comfy beds, and let her take some of those naps on your lap.

Explore

Another thing on little Fluffy’s agenda will be to investigate every nook and cranny of her new kingdom. That sense of adventure can get a little furball into trouble! Do some petproofing, and seal off openings behind and beneath furniture and cabinets. Check under blankets and recliners before sitting down, especially while your kitten is small and hard to spot. Also, keep major appliances, such as dryers and toilets, closed when not in use.

Work On My Roar

Your feline friend will go through many changes over the next few months. Her voice will also change as she matures. Kittens often have rather squeaky mews, but as little Fluffy ages, she’ll find her adult roar, which we all call the meow.
