Happy New Yea r! Are you starting 2021 out with a kitten? If so, your pint-sized pet is going to pass some major milestones this year. Little Fluffy has a lot to learn, and a lot of growing to do! Here, an Oconomowoc, WI veterinarian lists some of the things on your tiny furball’s to-do list for 2021.
Kittens grow very quickly. While most of us wouldn’t mind if that adorable toddler phase lasted a bit longer, your feline pal will reach adolescence within a few months, and adulthood in under a year. That growth spurt takes a lot of energy! Offer little Fluffy high-quality, nourishing kitten food.
Your adorable pet will want to investigate every timey nook and cranny of her new home. Your curious little furball could get into some trouble on these explorations, so be sure to do some kitten proofing. This means removing or securing anything that you don’t want little Fluffy playing with. Ask your vet for more information.
Kittens are ridiculously cute, and they are at their most adorable when they are feeling playful. GIve your furry friend lots of toys, and help her practice by playing with her. Use toys you control, like wand toys, to teach your furball to attack them, not you.
Part of your feline pal’s agenda will be sorting out how to work those razor-sharp claws. Actually, Fluffy’s little nails are curved to make climbing up things easier. Climbing down isn’t quite so simple, though. Be prepared to rescue your tiny furball from drapes and bookcases. Get her a cat tower, and try to teach her to scale that instead of your shower curtain.
Did you know that kittens grow the most when they are sound asleep? That’s because their growth hormone is released during sleep cycles. Give your little pet comfy beds. Also, remember to check beneath blankets and cushions before sitting down. Baby cats don’t make much of a lump!
Kittens often think of their humans as parents. Pay lots of attention to little Fluffy, and make sure she feels loved and safe. You may spend a good chunk of time being cat furniture this year!
