7 Signs of Sickness In Dogs

Dogs have been our friends and companions for thousands of years. We’ve gotten to know Fido pretty well in all that time, and have also gotten pretty good at communicating with our canine buddies. It’s usually pretty easy to tell if Fido wants a walk, or is hoping you’ll share your dinner with him. However, it isn’t always that easy to know if your pooch isn’t feeling well. Just like people, dogs can get rather cranky if they don’t feel well. If your furry companion seems grouchy, have your vet examine him. Changes in your pet’s personality can also be a sign that something is wrong. For instance, if Fido used to be happy and playful, and now doesn’t want to be touched, petted, or handled, he may be not be feeling well.

It’s normal for dogs to slow down as they age. However, if your playful pup has suddenly lost interest in his toys, he could be sick.

If there’s one thing Fido is enthusiastic about, it’s food. If your furry friend isn’t eating, you may very well have a sick puppy on your hands!

Dogs sometimes withdraw when they don’t feel well. If Fido keeps going off by himself, and doesn’t seem to want to leave his hiding spot, he could be ill.

The occasional bout of tummy trouble may not be anything to be concerned about. However, frequent, excessive, or bloody vomit or diarrhea are definitely warning signs!

Some of our canine pals are quite talkative, while others only bark to let us know there’s someone at the door. Any deviation from your furry buddy’s usual ‘speech’ patterns can be a red flag. Uncharacteristic yelping, whining, or growling are particularly worrisome.

Limping is another red flag to watch for. If Fido is developing arthritis or hip dysplasia, he may only limp a little during the early stages, particularly when he first gets up. As the condition progresses, the limp will get worse.
