7 Ways to Keep Your Cat Healthy

September 1, 2018

September is a special month for our feline pals: it’s Happy, Healthy Cat Month! Cats deserve to be happy and healthy all year long, of course. However, this is a great chance to talk about what Fluffy needs to stay healthy, and offer some tips on cat care. An Oconomowoc, WI vet gives some advice on keeping your pet healthy in this article.

Weigh Your Cat

Weight gains or losses of even just a pound or two can be quite significant in our furry pals. Weighing your furball regularly will help you keep track of any changes in her weight.

Keep Kitty In

Our feline friends can be quite adventurous. Many furballs love outdoor activities like leaving paw prints on your windshield and rolling around in the dirt. However, kitties face some very serious dangers outside. Weather, predators, cars, and other cats can all threaten Fluffy in the Great Outdoors. Kitties that go outside are also much more likely to get lost, hurt, or even killed. Keep your furry buddy safe and sound indoors.

Provide Regular Veterinary Care

Coming to visit us may not be Fluffy’s favorite pastime, but proper veterinary care is crucial to her health. Cats should be microchipped and spayed or neutered. It’s also important to keep up with your cat’s exams, vaccinations, and parasite control products. At home, watch for signs of illness. If you notice anything unusual about your pet’s appearance or behavior, call your vet immediately.

Keep The Litterbox Clean

Be sure to keep Fluffy’s litterbox clean. We recommend scooping daily and changing the litter every week.

Comfy Bedding

As you may have noticed, cats are quite sleepy. We’re not sure why Fluffy is so tired, but we do know she’ll appreciate lots of comfy beds.

Activity

Keeping your pet active and entertained will also help keep her healthy. Offer Fluffy lots of toys, and take time to play with her regularly. This will be good for your feline pal both physically and mentally. Even a few minutes of pouncing and jumping will be beneficial.

Love

Love is the secret ingredient in any cat care routine. Kitties need to feel loved and safe to truly thrive. After all, happy cats are healthy cats!
