September is Happy, Healthy Cat Month! Kitties are rather enigmatic little furballs. After all, Fluffy deliberately ignores us when we call, and sometimes bites out of affection. That can be a bit confusing. How do you tell if your feline buddy is content? An Oconomowoc, WI vet offers some tips in this article.
First and foremost, we have what is possibly the most adorable sign of kitty happiness: the purr. Of course, cats don’t only purr when they’re happy. They also sometimes turn their engines on when they’re sick or nervous. However, if Fluffy starts vibrating whenever you pet her or pick her up, your furry little friend is probably pretty content.
Cats are known for being curious. Actually, they are downright nosy. Happy cats are usually quite eager to investigate anything new, whether it’s a paper grocery bag, a cardboard box, or a closet you usually keep closed.
Fluffy may spend the majority of her time sleeping, but she does have some specific kitty duties, which she takes very seriously. Some of these responsibilities include accompanying you from room to room, sleeping on your lap, supervising your cooking, knocking things off your coffee table, and sleeping in your fresh laundry. If your pet is keeping up with her ‘job,’ she’s likely happy.
A great ‘report card’ from your veterinarian is also a good sign. After all, healthy cats are happy cats!
Kitties are very frisky by nature, and love to jump and pounce on things. If your feline pal is energetic and playful, that’s a good sign that Fluffy is happy.
Happy cats are often very interactive. Fluffy may meow back when you talk to her, and might even ‘argue’ with you. Even quiet kitties often respond or react when their owners address them or call them.
Our adorable feline friends have a reputation for being aloof, but that really isn’t fair. Fluffy can actually be very affectionate! In fact, some cats really want to be petted 24/7. If your furball loves to snuggle up on your lap, nap with you, or collect ear scritches, she’s probably pretty content. Of course, some kitties are just aloof by nature. That’s okay, too!
